Allow me to introduce my hypothetical community initiative brand Change the Narrative. After diligent research and numerous interviews with community members, I have found that throughout the Charlotte Mecklenburg public school system, there have been concerns from parents about the current gaps in education. Members of African-American community, as well as other minority communities, feel that significant moments of their history are being left out of the curriculum. Teaching critical race theory (CRT) is an important way to fix this problem, by providing students with the candid history of the country rather than one that is deceitful. It was first developed by legal scholars during the late 1970s, and aimed to reveal the existence of systematic racism within American society. In order to provide students with a more well-rounded and developed education, shouldn’t they have the right to know the full extent of each historical event and the ugly truths of our country’s history?
